  • Overview

    The Endoscopy Technician under the supervision of the Registered Nurse in assisting the physician in the endoscopic examination and treatment of patients. He/she is expected to adhere to SGNA standards and demonstrates knowledge of equipment, instruments, and procedures pertinent to the Endoscopy Unit. The EndoscopyTechnician must have a sense of responsibility and a willingness to meet the required time assignments and work load.


    • Assists the physician and RN during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Under direct supervision assists with biopsies, poly removal, esophageal dilations, specimen collection/ retrieval and other elated duties.
    • Performs assigned duties in a timely, efficient, and team- oriented manner. Prioritizes all tasks and duties to provide efficient workflow, realizing the impact this has on all staff, physicians and patients
    • Participates in Quality Improvement process as appropriate. Realizes he/she's responsibility to convey concerns regarding patient care issues, including equipment and supplies.
    • Communicates equipment malfunction to Unit Coordinator/Resource Person/Staff. Independently follows through with work order/maintenance requests.
    • Uses equipment and supplies in a fiscally responsible manner, utilizing cost containment strategies. Seeks guidance and direction as necessary while working on assigned duties/procedures.
    • Follows standards of universal precautions and aseptic technique. Recognizes breaks in technique and follows through appropriately.
    • Demonstrates proper use and care of specialty equipment, handling of scopes, sharps, and reprocessed items
    • Anticipates physician/patient instrument, equipment and supply needs. Maintains adequate supply levels in procedure rooms.
    • Is knowledgeable with OPD/DHC policies and procedures. Refers to SGNA procedure manual and resource staff as needed.
    • Responds to emergency situations as directed by the RN


    • BLS certification
    • CNA Certification, State of Maine
    • Competent organizational/interpersonal skills
    • Competent clinical/technical skills
    • Requires lifting and bending with extended hours on one's feet throughout the day
    • Exposure to a variety of diseases
    • Ability to work in a fast pasted environment
    • Endoscopy Technicians are strongly encouraged to complete the GI Associates Skill Validation test and achieve the title GI Technical Specialist
