The Lead Medical Infusion Center (MIC) Nurse is responsible for day-to-day operations of the MIC. The Lead Nurse works clinically in the department and is responsible and accountable for the delivery of safe, age specific, patient focused quality care and the management of the necessary material and fiscal resource to deliver the care. The Lead Nurse collaborates with a variety of office practices to assure the patient's needs and care requirements are met for those patients referred to the MIC. 


The Lead MIC Nurse is recognized as a leader in the department and respects the mission and philosophy of the organization. He.she participates in organizational performance activities that impact patient care. The MIC Nurse acts as a professional in the delivery of patient care. He/she respects the standards of care, nursing practice, corporate compliance and hospital standards. 


  • Assess available resources required to care for the patient in an outpatient setting, including potential risks to assure a safe environment. 
  • Evaluate clinical data (including labs) to determine whether patient meets criteria for treatment/therapy. Ensures that necessary prior authorizations have been obtained prior to treatment. 
  • Collaborates with the referring physician and supervising practitioner to develop an individualized plan of care for each patient based on patient assessment and age specific needs. 
  • Educates patient and/or family regarding disease process, care requirements, medications, and other healthcare needs. 
  • Works closely with pharmacy to ensure availability of drug, that patient meets criteria for treatment and that prior authorizations are in place prior to treatment. 


  • Graduate of a two or four year nursing program (Bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Current Maine Nursing License
  • Current BLS certification
  • ONS Chemotherapy and Bio-therapy required; Infusion Therapy Certification preferred.
  • One year nursing experience in acute care setting required; previous experience in an outpatient setting preferred. 
  • Proven leadership skills.
