The Nurse Director of Emergency Services, oversees both Emergency Department and Emergency Medical Services

 

The Nurse Director position at Mid Coast hospital is a key leadership and management position within the organization. The primary area of responsibility is to ensure optimal patient/family outcomes by maintaining a caring and healing environment. The nurse director provides direction for the overall growth and development of the Emergency Department and Emergency Medical Services, incorporating the objectives, policies and procedures of the nursing department and Mid Coast–Parkview Health. The  Emergency Services Nurse Director is responsible for effective leadership, assuring clinical excellence, promoting teamwork and collaboration, supporting professional development and managing the business of the Emergency Department and Emergency Medical Services unit.  

Responsibilities

  • Upholds and consistently acts in concert with the ethical values and principles of the profession and the organization.
  • Promotes a practice environment that honors the professional autonomy of the registered nurse in the management of patient care.
  • Develops and maintains strong professional relationships.
  • Understands the components of cultural competency and assures direct care nurses are competent to care for diverse populations.
  • Manages relationships in a manner that is supportive, constructive and promotes professional growth and development.
  • Manages and oversees the quality of care, ensuring practice standards are met using evidence based practice to guide practice and monitoring clinical competency.
  • Utilizing performance improvement, quality and safety opportunities to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Maintains and demonstrates current knowledge and standards of care in relevant clinical area.
  • Serves as a resource to clinical staff, i.e. patient assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation, resolving conflict and resource allocation.
  • Assures supervisor for clinical personnel and students assigned with the department.
  • Models effective communication skills, interpersonal relation skills and effective decision-making skills.

Qualifications

  • Current nursing registration in the State of Maine
  • BSN required
  • MSN preferred
