Overview

Under the supervision of the Food and Nutrition Manager, and taking daily direction from the Dining Room Team Leader, the Lead Wait Staff position is responsible for the general oversight of the work performed by Wait Staff in the Thornton Hall dining room. The objective is to maintain a staff that is courteous, efficient and well groomed. A training program shall be initiated to promote professionalism and meet the expectations of Thornton Hall Dining Service. The Lead Wait staff shall perform such other duties as assigned by the Dining Room Team Leader and/or Food and Nutrition Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to all resident needs as they arise while in the dining room.
  • Have a complete knowledge of table setting and servers etiquette expected at Thornton Hall.
  • Post daily menus and meal counts.
  • Help coordinate Wait Staff’s daily work tasks.
  • Oversee daily set up and clean up of service areas and dining room prior to and following serving hours.
  • Perform Wait Staff duties.
  • Assist with auditing compliance for safe food handling; provide additional training to assigned staff as needed.
  • Assist with orientation of new employees.
  • Assist with training the service staff.

  • Ensure all health and dress codes are adhered to by Thornton Hall dining service personnel.

Qualifications

  • Excellent public relations skills.
  • Good knowledge of food service operations especially as relates to food safety.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of serving and the rules, practices, and regulations which apply.
  • Ability to work with other personnel to ensure smooth operation.
