Overview

Provides the delivery of safe, age specific, patient focused quality care. Accountable for the management of necessary material resources needed to provide this care. The ED technician works under the clinical supervision of the ED physician to assure patient’s needs and care requirements are met. The RN coordinates and oversees specific tasks for specific patients

Responsibilities

  • Follows patients established plan of care with guidance of RN
  • Anticipates and performs general patient care as relates to hygiene.
  • Assists patients with nutrition and hydration by setting up and/or feeding patients. Provides fluids and nutritional snacks within patient’s diet order.
  • Assists patient with ambulation while maintaining safety, using adjunct equipment such as a walker, cane, crutches, etc.
  • Performs patient transfers using good body mechanics and appropriate adjunct equipment; maintains proper body alignment when repositioning patients.
  • Sets up for sterile procedures(suture set up) using aseptic technique
  • Assists with orthopedic care including orthotic applications and crutch fitting
  • Assists patients with elimination by providing bedpan, commode, or assist to toilet.
  • Performs EKG’s.
  • Completes assigned checklists for stocking and room readiness
  • Prepares patient for discharge, gathering all personal belongings. Includes post mortem care.
  • After patient is discharged, cleans equipment used on patient (monitors, vital sign equipment, stretchers, etc.)
  • Assists co-workers with patient care as needed
  • Follows guidance and direction as necessary.
  • Assists with monitoring of patients in restraints/seclusion.
  • Transfers patients to other departments as appropriate.
  • Initiate IVs under the guidance of nursing in accordance with MCH policy.
  • Draws blood specimens for Lab as ordered by provider

 

Qualifications

  • Paramedic License required.
  • BLS and ACLS certification required.        
  • Basic computer skills preferred
