Overview

 

Provides clerical support for the pathology office to ensure an efficient operation and to promote customer relations.

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepares special records for various committee functions and statistical studies as requested.
  • Coordinate Tumor, Breast and GI conferences- 3 per month.
    • Submit names to breast coordinator
    • Type case lists and physician letters
    • Ensure patient information is correct
    • Arrange food and environmental services
    • Assist pathologist by providing all conference materials; pathology reports, consultation reports, slides, evaluations and agendas
    • Distribute materials to appropriate attendees
  • Maintains permanent autopsy file numerically by year; establishes an autopsy record book.
  • Manage all legal requests for reports, slides, blocks, etc.
  • Maintains departmental log and follow-up of slides forwarded for consultative and/or physician review.
  • Prepares proper order forms, collects parrafin blocks and/or slides and forwards them to appropriate reference laboratory for special studies, packaged specimens of tissue.
  • Handles correspondence and material pertaining to any hospital committee, state committee or CAP committee of which the pathologist may be a member.
  • Collects data for Quality Assurance reports for the Pathology Department
  • On occasion, may perform order entry and accessioning of Histology/Cytology cases.
  • Manage list of pathology addendum, corrected and revised reports
  • Takes necessary calls and relays messages for the pathologist, always being courteous and cooperative and maintaining absolute confidentiality.
  • Maintains and updates office procedure manual. .
  • Orders all office supplies in a timely manner.
  • Performs other related duties on behalf of, and as directed by, the pathologist.
  • Order entry and accessioning as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

  • High School diploma.
  • Knowledge of Pathology Terminology preferred .
  • l year of experience in a similar environment preferred.
  • Microsoft Word and Excell skills.
