The registered nurse in the Procedure Suite is responsible for all aspects of clinical management of patient care including assessment, diagnosing, identifying outcomes, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care. Our nurses demonstrate high standards of professional practice including collegiality, collaboration, ethics, research, resource utilization and leadership.

The Pain Procedure nurse is responsible for coordination of pain procedure care of patients scheduled and other procedures as appropriate.


  • Prioritize workload coordinating room turnover to minimize wasted time and supplies.
  • Attend at least 80% of staff meetings andall mandatory in-services.
  • Delegate appropriate to team members to facilitate case preparation and turnover of cases and department patient flow.
  • Integrate National Patient Safety Goals and Quality Indicators into departmental practice.
  • Demonstrate competency in unit-specific procedural skills.
  • Coordinate assessment, teaching and chart preparation of patients utilizing critical thinking/ organizational skills and in accordance with standards of care/ practice per hospital/ policy.

  • Assess available resources required to care for assigned patients including potential risks to assure a safe environment.

  • Reassess patient for alterations from baseline, response to changes in treatment plan, after implementing care intervention, and notifying physician as appropriate.

  • Investigate concerns, complaints and other issues regarding patient care. 

  • Prioritize patient care to achieve a smooth workflow meeting patient care requirements responding to emergent care as necessary completing workload within allotted shift.

  • Delegate appropriate patient care/unit activities to non-licensed staff.
  • Implement care based on age specific needs, integrating National Patient Safety Goals and quality measures as care is delivered.
  • Educate patient and/or family/significant other regarding disease process, care requirements, medications, and other healthcare needs.
  • Use effective time management strategies to prioritize and accomplish direct and indirect patient care within assigned shift.
  • Ensure documentation reflects quality care, is factual, accurate, objective, complete, and timely reflecting plan of care, therapeutic interventions and patient's responses.
  • Validate patient's level of understanding regarding their health care needs and treatment.
  • Role model professional behavior to promote clinical excellence and quality patient care.  Attend staff meetings and mandatory education per unit policy.
  • Demonstrate cost awareness strategies in the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Provide descriptive feedback to Director (or involved peer) regarding conflict, unacceptable performance and/or behavior during shift with focus on standard compliance in a timely manner to achieve a productive work environment.
  • Voice opportunities for process improvement participating in data collection for validation purposes.


  • Current RN license.
  • Maintain clincal competencies related to Pain Management procedures.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • ACLS and PALS certification preferred or must be completed within the first year of employment.
  • Must have strong communication and patient/family teaching skills.
  • Requires the ability to work flexible hours.
