  • Overview

    Under the supervision of the Supervisor, the Food & Nutrition Aide performs a variety of patient/customer food service functions in one or more of the following areas: cafeteria, patient tray side, nourishments, catering, as well as other related tasks in accordance with department/organizational goals and objectives and in compliance with current laws and regulations



    • Performs all job functions in accordance with department/organizational policies and procedures
    • Prepares position area(s) for each meal as assigned and assure sanitation of such area(s) before, during and after meal service
    • Prepares, portion, service and/or deliver meal/nourishment/snacks to patients, staff, guests and visitors in an attractive, appetizing manner and as specified, while practicing safe food handling methods
    • Delivers to and retrieve from food carts to patient/resident floors as specified
    • Prepares, set-up, deliver and retrieve catering function items to function rooms
    • Maintains proper temperatures of all foods and beverages served
    • Stock and refill as necessary any service ware, condiments, food/beverage/paper item needed before, during and after meal service. Maintain proper inventory of items in all specified department areas, as well as in nursing unit and other facility areas with FNS nourishments.  Maintain sanitation of unit/area kitchenettes on daily basis.
    • Maintain appropriate equipment temperature logs (refrigerator, freezer) on daily basis. Notify FNS Supervisor of any unacceptable temperature variations, as well as to the necessity of equipment (thermometers) or repairs in order to maintain safe food handling practices.
    • Prepare, set-up and maintain salad bar/patient salad line area in a safe, neat, attractive, sanitary manner
    • Prepare menu board for successive meal service
    • Operate cash register according to standard procedure. Practice safe/appropriate cash handling procedures.  Make daily deposit to fiscal services.
    • Maintains sanitation of and/or stock vending machines in cafeteria areas as dictated by department policy
    • Follows proper hand washing procedures when handling food and service ware
    • Dispose of all garbage and trash properly an as it accumulates in accordance with sanitation policies and procedures.
    • Follows procedures for using, cleaning and sanitizing equipment in a safe and sanitary manner.



    • High School diploma preferred but not required
    • Prior experience of food service, preferable in a health care/institutional setting desired but not necessary
