Overview

Measures and evaluates, in a home or boarding home setting, the language abilities, auditory processes, and speech production and/or treatment of persons with speech, language, swallowing and hearing disorders.  Assists the patient in establishing the optimum communication system to express physical, emotional, and social needs.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately develops and plans programs involving, but not limited to, dysphasia evaluation/treatment:  instruction in esophageal speech techniques:  evaluation/treatment of receptive/expressive aphasia, dysarthria, confused language, voice disorders and cleft palate; and the consultation of communication augmentation systems.
  • Provides accurate, complete and timely documentation related to each patient according to agency guidelines and third party payer requirements.

  • Recommends/consults regarding augmentation communication devices which meet the specific needs of the patient population

  • Participates as agency liaison in training CHANS employees and in educating the community to the role & function of speech therapy.

Qualifications

  • Maine State licensure
  • Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent composition skills
  • Valid Maine driver’s license and own transportation
