Overview

A Personal Support Specialist is a non-licensed member of the private duty home care team who assists the client with tasks of daily living in the home as outlined in a written care plan that is established by a registered nurse and is kept in the client’s home. Personal Support Specialist’s are supervised by the Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with personal care including hair care, oral hygiene, bathing, grooming and dressing
  • Assists with ambulation with or without mechanical devices
  • Maintains a safe and healthy environment through light housekeeping, including changing bed linens, dusting and vacuuming, cleaning kitchen and bathroom, laundry and other housekeeping tasks as indicated by care plan
  • Possesses good interpersonal communication skills with client, families and members of the Private Duty health care team

Qualifications

  • High School Diplomal must be at least 18 years olf
  • Prior homecare experience preferred
  • Must exhibit mature, responsible behavior and understand the need for patient confidentiality
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Must be able to follow direction and accurately report to the Registered Nurse or appropraite designee any changes in client condition
  • Must have available, reliable transportation to and from assignments
